My name is Christopher Nalls and I have been a fitness equipment repair technician for over 15 years. I am factory certified, licensed, insured and ready to help with all your service needs. I strive to provide timely and quality service.
Pedal and Tour was opened in 1970 by Jim and Barbara Trail at 711 Greenwood. The Trail’s were at the cutting edge of fitness at a time when it was just becoming a growing movement. Putting together cross country skiing and bicycling was a unique combination. They owned the business for four years before selling it to newly married Pegg and Bruce Clevenger. Pegg had worked for Mr. Trail during her summer’s home from college. Newlyweds, straight from the alter, Pegg and Bruce embarked on an adventure that Pegg likens to “raising a child". The two moved the business just one year later to Francis Street. The couple purchased the building from Pegg’s father on a land contract, did some remodeling, and there it remained for the next 24 years.
In 1983, George Webster and Chris Kohn purchased Pedal and Tour from the Clevengers. With wives and young children in tow, the two continued pedaling along. Chris went his own way in 1988, George decided to get out of the ski business in 1991, and added fitness equipment to diversify income outside of bicycle season in the mid-80s.
With the business growing even more George and his wife Mick, purchased a three-story building at 225 N. Jackson Street, in 1997. What was originally the C.E. Hamlin building, where George worked long before buying Pedal and Tour. George and Mick spent nearly two years overhauling the building with the help of friends like Jeff Beagle, Richie Rand, and more.
Fast forward to 2007. George took a chance and hired a pizza delivery guy to take over for the long tenured fitness equipment technician Nick Shong who was starting life anew in Tennessee.
Chris Nalls joined the ranks of Tony Berlanga, Shelly Wilson, Ryan Kurtz, Randi Greenslade, Jamie Brandt and Charles Adkins. A few more employees helped out over the years such as Shaniqua, Carl, Bob Snider, Dana Millinan, Ryan Tims, Josh Cwynar, Tim Creery, Corey Grazul and others. If we are missing someone please let us know so we can add them.
Now 15 years have pass and after surviving a recession and a pandemic. The final crew of Chris Nalls, Tony Berlanga, Alex Cash, Oliver Cook, Darryl Haney and his grandson Keegan Rumler stand watch as
George fulfills his promise to retire, ride his bike and watch the sunset. We all were blessed to have to have been a part of the history of Pedal and Tour.
With George's retirement underway. The future of the bike shop on 225 N. Jackson St is now in the safe hands of the Renowned D&D Bicycles.
